Over the years since Roye England conceived Pendon there have been numerous changes, some subtle and others obvious. This museum reveals the extent of those changes in the Vale through the years, and gives visitors a better understanding of what has been lost in the English countryside.

Guy Williams was one of this country’s leading model locomotive builders. He was one of the founders of Pendon Museum and over half a century, made 57 superb locomotives that are now housed here.

Here is a selection of what to see at the Pendon Museum.

A sunny day in the glorious English countryside of the 1920s and 30s, when the pace of life was slower. Chalky lanes connect villages, farms and scattered hamlets. Cars and lorries are a rarity, with only the occasional stream train rumbling by. Pendon’s 70’ x 30’ (21m x 9m) representation in miniature shows you what it was like around eighty years ago.

Dartmoor Scene

See skilfully crafted model trains on the Museum’s Dartmoor Scene with its iconic Brunel timber viaduct. Although there used to be many of these viaducts in the West Country, they have long since been demolished. Our magnificent model viaduct was originally created by Guy Williams whose exceptional skills are being celebrated this year.
